Love Breaks Down video

The official video for Love Breaks Down has been released.

The video shows the last 2 minutes of a couple’s life together, set in the prosaic environment of a counsellor’s practice. As Sinead O’Connor sang: “This is the last day of our acquaintance, I will meet you later in somebody’s office.”

The actor, Jan Defauw, was my teacher in Latin and Greek in high school. On the set, we were all deeply moved by his naturalness. Liliana De Vries plays beautifully too, understanding and providing instinctively what was needed. And although every song is usually a dance between reality and fantasy for me, channelled into being long after the ‘facts’, for these two actors the video felt very real at the moment of shooting. Without me knowing, they were going through something very similar in real life.
